I found a new spandex section at the fabric store and wanted to create a pair of shorts. I decided to make them high waisted and experiment with belt loops attached lower to make the shorts bunch at the top. I'm very happy with the outcome.

This lace shirt was made in a very simple manner. It is simply two pieces of lace cut into the shape of a shirt and tied together. The shorts were a bit harder, a soft tweed material with a stretchy army green attached belt. E-mail if interested in other colors.

These pants were inspired from the noticeably recent "metallic" trend in clothing, and a book I am currently reading entitled "Just Kids" by Patti Smith. She quotes the type of dress of those walking around St. Mark's, informing readers that they also all had "wild hair and kohl-rimmed eyes;" so we tried to go for this look with Liz's make-up. Enjoy!

Here we have a double-v sleeveless top made of a stretchy black material, accompanied by a pair of baggy gray shorts, buttoned at the top with a similar black material that serves as an attached belt. The shorts, pleated at the top, are meant to fit big and then tight at the waist, and almost give the illusion of a skirt. The airy, light-weight and extremely comfortable shorts will be perfect for hot summer days, and for fashionable summer nights.

Black & White High-Waisted Shorts

These shorts are cohesive with the pants in the previous post and are also a part of our Summer 2010 collection. We again used the leaf stitching for the pockets, and accent bands around the waist and leg bottoms. The color palette that we are using for the collection is represented through these shorts since most of the items will be black, white and gray with color accents. As soon as we're finished all of the garments they will be showcased all together. So stay tuned!

New Pants and Striped Shirt

This is our very first pair of pants! We decided to make them summery, lightweight, airy. The black accents on the top and the bottom help to make the pants more fitting and flattering around the waist and ankles.
The striped shirt is just a signature top, off the shoulder, with a very light weight, almost see-through material. The combination of the pants and shirt are sure to work well this summer.

These pants and shirt will be staple items in our summer 2010 collection. We can't wait to finish it!

Square V Neck Dress

This purple dress had, yet again, different intentions. Originally, I had wanted to create a dress with off-the-shoulder sleeves and a slit in the back. However, once I got halfway through the construction, I realized that the slit looked a lot nicer, and more sophisticated, in the front than in the back. The square, thick way in which it is sewn is very flattering, and I liked the idea of having the fabric join together in the front, instead of the traditional seam in the back.

This dress will be a part of our summer collection. It can be purchased here.

After looking at Rossella Tarabini's sketches, I used her style to draw my vision. According to fashionmodeldirectory.com, Tarabini's work shows "grat attention to sartorial details and fluidity of lines" while "express[ing] great sensual femininity withholding any exhibitionism."Her drawings are beautiful. They are so simple, yet they hold within them a personality and coloring of their own. A gorgeous photograph of hers can be seen here.

Simple Red Dress with Illustrations by Zang Toi

I don't know what possessed me to throw together a red dress. It was one of those simple things, that you can put together in 5 minutes. It turned out to be so sheer, that it would probably work out better as a bathing suit cover-up. Although this piece will not be a part of our summer collection, we wanted to show it anyway.

Zang Toi is a Malaysian fashion designer from New York. Some of his pieces can be seen on Kirstie Alley, Meg Ryan, and Fergie. His illustrations are fairy geometrical, and he has a tendency to use animal features for human faces. His handwriting of what the garment contains is what really makes him stick out, so we wanted to incorporate that into our rendition.

High-waisted Shorts Ft. Illustrations by Tibi

Dark olive green shorts are representative of the runways this spring. Many shows featured items resembling military jackets, army pants and combat boots. Some designers include Marc Jacobs, Celine and Louis Vuitton, and the "Army Surplus" can be seen here.

We used one of Tibi's drawings to illustrate our garment in her style. Tibi was started by designer Amy Smilovic. According to net-a-porter.com, "Smilovic continues to use a childhood interest in art and illustrations to inject a unique sense of vibrancy into her eye-catching pieces."

Summer Collection Piece No. 3

This is the third (maybe) to our summer collection. Although we initially wanted to work with draping, we decided on just doing a small, sheer white drape in the front to complement the sheer sleeve.

The rendition Christina did, is yet another Aneta Bartos model. It was first done with pen and ink, then watercolor pencils. The model is wearing our design.

This dress was modeled off of a shirt we tried to make, and ended up not liking the color result. Instead of scrapping the idea, we decided to elongate the shirt and make it into a dress, switching up the color palette. This long, black dress sandwiching a tanish orange color is what we ended up with.

The original intention of the dress was for it to fall all the way to the floor. It very well could if worn with flats or by someone shorter than myself.

We are currently working on our first pair of pants! They are going to be slightly high waisted, cropped and tighter at the bottom.
We are also working on another ambitious dress. It exposes the shoulders/back of the shoulder blades with two black straps and fabric embracing the upper arms.

This over-sized shirt is made from a stretchy, light cotton fabric. The sleeves are a part of the original pattern, making them lie lower on the body and give that saggy look. Even though this photo shoot of Mary Kate is old, her outfit never ceases to amaze me. I wanted to create something that embodies the comfort & sophistication that she had in the shoot. I think this garment does just that.

The drawing of Mary Kate was done with Pen and Ink & finalized in Photoshop. The cityscape in the background is a Paul Brent original.

Riding Shorts

These shorts put me in the mood to dance to Shakira. They are made from thick twill, and lay low on the waist. For the hem I chose to overlay the fabric to preserve the fray from the original cut of material. The color makes these shorts perfect for any season, in particular Celine's Fall 2010 line. The shorts are also reminiscent of riding pants.

Elle Magazine has recently featured Lady GaGa on their foreign cover. I loved the photo and wanted to redo it in my own style.
The rendition was done first with pencil, then pen and ink, painted with acrylic paints, and finalized in photoshop.

Her shorts were a particular inspiration. Liz is currently working on her first pair. yay!

After seeing Balenciaga's Spring line, we were inspired to make our own dress embodying geometric shapes. We put our scrap fabric to good use, and picked those that were most complimentary to one another. The construction was tedious, however, because each shape of fabric was sewn like a pocket. We were very happy with the final product, and felt that we captured what we wanted to accomplish.

I had a recent call from my grandfather, who told me in his excitement that he had found a Kipling book entitled "Kim" at a flee market from the early 1900s. This inspired me to create a collage with a vintage feeling, using fashion instead of words.

Rodarte Adapted Safari Dress

In the fabric store, Liz and I were completely captivated by this outdated section of printed fabrics. This safari fabric stuck out as a quasi spring-print. As we were deciding what to do with the fabric, originally intending to create an oversized long sleeved shirt, we realized we were a bit short of fabric. It was then, we realized, we should just create a simple dress.
At the moment Liz was constructing her dress, I was viewing Rodarte's website, captivated by the glowing orange haired models he had chosen. I began sketching a Rodarte model, but when I got to the detail of the shirt, decided to go with an interpretation of the fabric Liz was working with. So, in a sense, we adapted a Rodarte model into our own Safari baggy dress. The painting was done with watercolor pencils and ink, and enhanced on the computer.

Pina Ferlisi Inspired Tan Dress with Black Rounded Neckline

This tan dress is made from a stretchy fabric with a more solid, black fabric outlining the round, high neck. The black belt that goes around the top of the body is separate from the dress. This was meant to add more black accents and lessen the amount of skin that is revealed in the back. The dress can obviously be worn with or without the belt.

Pina Ferlisi is a Canadian designer who helped launch the Marc by Marc Jacobs label. Like us, Ferlisi first draws by hand and then uses the computer for enhancement. Ferlisi is now the creative director of Generra, whose Spring collection can be seen here.

Roksanda Ilincic Inspired Tank

This white-pocketed tank is made of a light-weight, soft, pinstripe fabric, a la a classy wife beater. The pocketed tank/dress is a feature item for our Spring 2010 line. You may recall the first tank we made a few weeks back, made of a heavier black fabric. For the Spring, we will be selling these comfortable and stylish tanks in a variety of muted tones, and this white garment is the first of many to come.

Roksanda Ilincic is a designer who draws with elegance. Her drawings show movement of clothing, such as a ring of circles for a hat, rather than static, hard lines. Her Spring 2010 collection can be seen here.

This dress was inspired from the simplicity of Coco Chanel's Little Black Dress. It is made from a semi-sheer black fabric. The fabric stretches slightly.

This dress was made specifically for Jessica Cho. The sleeves in the original sketch were meant to be a bit tighter, but the material didn't seem to want to cooperate. It can be worn off the shoulder (as shown in the pictures), or on the shoulder as a boat-neck.

This one is going to be very difficult for me to part with :(

Don't bite your nails, shred fabric/inspired by Molly Grad

This t-shirt was tediously shredded (not joking, it takes about 3 hours to shred half a t-shirt). It usually works best with knit fabrics, since once you begin pulling the threads apart, they don't completely crumble. The top of the shirt is a sheer off-white material, just to hold the shredded mess up on your shoulders.

The most captivating thing about Molly Grad are her drawings. Most of them consists of basic lines, spattered colors, and overlap, giving them a feeling of transparency. Each line is drawn with precision and an extremity that can captivate you.

Her use of pastel coloring adds just the right amount of color, and leaves the viewer with a feeling of whimsy.

It's late, yet Jorgen Simonsen Inspired this lengthy blazer

It's late, but being snowed-in in Philadelphia many nights in a row and surrounded by gorgeous fabric, we can't help but keep going. I've outplayed The Album Leaf, Elliott Smith, and the Counting Crows to the point of annoyance, but Liz has managed to keep pinning and producing this perfectly fit, lightweight blazer in an adorable black pinstripe material.

Jorgen Simonsen draws to perfection. His drawings are elaborate, highlighting the woman's figure. His use of color, through mostly crayons, pastels, and Pantone markers, makes his gray-scaled illustrations pop. Simonsen's sophisticatedly detailed style makes it hard to believe that a human could render with such precision.

Ambitious Dress Inspired By Gianfranco Ferré

Gianfranco Ferré was an Italian fashion designer, who majored in architecture, which explains his geometrical lines and edges in his drawings.

This dress was obviously overly ambitious, and sort of has some humor to it. Although it doesn't fit in with any sort of collection of ours, it was more a fun project inspired from the coming spring, it being a "flowy" (not that it turned out that way) dress and all.

Coincidence?/Betsey Johnson Inspired Romper

Is it just a coincidence that a lot of this Spring/Summer 2010 collection has a striking resemblance to pin-up girls?
According to fashionising.com, "many recent fashion trends have pointed to it, and given the popularity of the likes of lingerie as outerwear." With designers nearing invisibility with their hemlines, there should be quite a reaction this coming season. Maybe we won't even need to buy new bathing suits.

We all know Betsey Johnson. She uses highly saturated and brightly colored computer images for most of her fashion illustrations. Usually they incorporate elaborate tattoos, jewelry, flowers, and other exotic feminine accessories. The light pink color used in this romper follows the fashionable colors for summer 2010. The use of cut outs has been a theme throughout most of our collection. It also fits with the revealing nature of the classic pin-up girls.

Antonio Ciutto/Anybody Got a Match? Inspired Skirt

Antonio Ciutto is a London based South African designer. His drawings give the general feel of the motion of the human body, with lines drawn where shadows would normally fall. He uses primarily black, white, and grey in his drawings, but his use of color feels pixelated and enhances his more scenic drawings.

This skirt also garnered some insight from the films of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. Bacall often wore black and white, and when she said her infamous and first line in Hollywood, "Anybody got a match?," she donned an elegant jacket which served as inspiration for this garment. The skirt attempts the sophisticated look of Bacall's costumes in her films with Bogart, as in To Have and Have Not and The Big Sleep, while also appealing to the high wasted fashion of today.

James Thomas Inspired Saggy Sweater + The Mountains

James Thomas creates most of his fashion illustrations by cutting out tiny pieces of paper and lying them over top of one another. This is why his illustrations are mostly solid colors, composed primarily of bold shapes. In the book Fashion Illustration By Fashion Designers, I came across his fashion model collages which I quickly obsessed over. The photo on the right is Thomas', one that he made specially for the book. The computer image on the left was my semi-sorry attempt to create the beauty that he can through simple shapes and colors.

I wanted to create something wintry, since it is still 30 degrees here in Philadelphia, which is where I came up with the idea to make a saggy sweater. The neckline of the sweater extends at the top, which allows it to be worn draped down in the front, buttoned under the neck, or folded backwards behind the head. The fabric is a semi lattice light gray soft material, that easily drapes over a slim figure.

Underneath the sweater, I am wearing the sleeveless pocketed t-shirt (that we have for sale) with Zara pants. The shoes are from Urban Outfitters.

Doo Ri Chung is a fashion designer and illustrator who graduated from The New School (Parsons). Her jersey dresses are her biggest accomplishment, so I tried to incorporate a sporty jersey look into a plain tank, with a small pocket in the front. Most plain tanks have a look of masculinity, but I tried to give the garment a more feminine look, by adding an exaggerated neckline with a slinky black fabric. Although not entirely see-through, the garment has a bit of translucency, which also adds to it's airy and feminine feel.

Walter Van Beirendonck is a Belgian fashion designer and illustrator. His drawings are very strongly and graphically designed, almost giving the illusion of some sort of graffiti.

This hoodie was special ordered. Although it isn't cohesive with the rest of the collection, we wanted to show it anyway. It is made from a light weight sweatshirt heather grey material and is made to fit a young male (although Liz pulls it off beautifully).

Basso + Brooke Inspired Slinky Black Dress

Basso and Brooke is a fashion label that became well-know with their use of digital printing in the industry. Although their Spring 2010 collection bears no resemblance to this simple, black dress, they inspired the dress through their various fashion illustrations from the book entitled Fashion Illustration by Fashion Designers by Laird and Borrelli. "Drawing is the vehicle for the big picture," says Brooke in Fashion Illustration by Fashion Designers, "it's the stage of the design process when you can express volume and silhouette without limitations."

It may be hard to see any sort of connection from Basso + Brooke's pristine use of flashy colors and voluptuous use of fabric. Their illustrations pop, this dress does not. But, none the less was inspired from one of their more simple illustrations in the book.

The dress is made of a slinky black fabric that bounces up and down as you walk. It's comfortable and form fitting. More can be made upon request.

Lacroix Inspired Funky Dress

This dress, was put together in literally 15 minutes. A very fast dress, that was meant to turn out entirely different, ended up working out just fine. My original intentions included a stretchier fabric (this is sort of hard to move in), with black sheer fabric draping one shoulder and a thin strap of velvet on the opposite side.

Of course, not being able to get away from lattice, I tried that, which was messier than I had anticipated it to be. So much so, that I had to tie a black bow in the back in order to secure it in place.

Christian Lacroix, a fashion designer, and a fabulous illustrator, was the inspiration for my design. Some of his fashion designs can be seen here . More of his illustrations can be seen here .

More Lattice

This spring, knits are branching out much further than just interweaving. Lattice, a simple fabric with holes (or the illusion of holes) is pulling its own weight. This simple garment, which isn't completely see-through in the front, has a see-through, light weight white fabric beneath the black lattice, which makes it a little less revealing. The back is just the see-through white fabric. This garment can also be reversible, if you are still holding onto the brilliance of see-through clothing that has been all over the runways. The neckline on the garment is square-ish, although when on, it drapes like a simple neckline.

According to fatlace.com, "2010 is all about the lattice and macrame". Macrame is sort of like knitting, but uses a series of knots. Usually cotton or hemp is used in macrame, giving the garment a thicker feel. The use of lattice can be seen here, displayed by Alexander Wang in his new Spring 2010 collection.

The colors from this skirt were inspired from the colors of old pianos. The garment was made with a geometrical design, with triangles being the dominant shape. The skirt itself is made from a flowy gray material, while the triangles on the bottom of the front and the back are made from sheer black material. The belt, which is attached on the sides and simply tied in the front, is not removable, but can be adjusted for various sizes. The belt is also made from the same sheer fabric material. The skirt is meant to be worn high-waisted, but elastic at the top allows for stretching for fit.

The "Flyaway"© is made from sheer black fabric and belted with a thrifted belt. According to fashionising.com "you'll find sheer fabrics used in a multitude of ways: tight sheer pieces, layers, and the much sought after delicate, feminine draping," this season. The "Flyaway" embodies these elements with a loose fit dress great over anything.

Danny Roberts Inspiration ft. The Loll

This see-through black t-shirt, worn by Amanda Vogenitz, is made from a very sheer, tulle black fabric. The same pattern that is used for The Loll© is used here. The sleeves are a bit tighter than the rest of the shirt, made from a black mesh fabric.

The photo in the middle is a Danny Roberts original (igorandandre.blogspot.com) and was the inspiration for the photo editing.
